50K – 2 loops
50 mile – 1 extended loop, 2 main loops
EAST YEAR
MAIN LOOP: Starting at the Mac Dick Pavillion, runners will enter the Pioneer Trail for .5 mile and connect to Kiowa Trail to the left. Around mile 1.8 you will turn left and run the Hackberry Spur around the campground, under the bridge and then connect to the Paseo del Rio Trail. Mile 3.5 you will come to the road, stay to the right, cross the bridge into the Lighthouse Parking lot where the first aid station is located. From there, head onto Juniper Cliffside to about mile 3.8, turn onto the Capital Peak Trail and run about 3 miles, join Juniper Cliffside again, reach your second Aid Station around mile 6.8. Continue til around mile 7.8, then you will cross the road onto Sunflower Trail. Around mile 8.8 you will turn right, cross the bridge and run on Cottonwood trail until you reach the Rock Garden Aid Station at mile 9. Fill your water bottles/bladders and grab some food for your mile long climb up Rock Garden. When the trail intersects with Lower Comanche, turn left and run down until it turns into Upper Comanche, continuing on until the Hackberry Aid Station, mile 12.8. From here, stay on Upper Comanche and you will finish back at the Pavilion Parking Lot for 15.5 miles. 50K will run this loop twice and the 50 mile will run this loop 3 times, plus the 3.5 add on for the first loop.
50 Mile 1st Loop Only: When you get to Sunflower Trail, you will turn right onto Juniper Riverside Trail. Run down where it crosses the road to Juniper Cliffside, back to the same intersection of Sunflower across the street. Stay on Sunflower and continue to Cottonwood, to the Rock Garden Aid Station, then continue as on the main loop.
Rock Garden Trail and the Comanche trails are the most technical of the trails we utilize for the race. Lots of short but steep ascents and descents, some loose rock, close to drop offs, etc. Hackberry Spur and parts of Paseo are very sandy. Most of the trails are hard packed single track.
